March 2016 Favorites & Shit That Sucked

I have lots of makeup favorites over here this month, as I spent a little more than I should have at the end of February. I’m thinking about going on a no-buy until May when S and I are both working again but we all know that’s unlikely to happen! For now though let’s talk about what I loved in March!

Face Product Favorites

Perfectly Posh Complexion Correction Face Wash ($17)

I’ve been in need of a decent face wash so I picked this up during a friend’s sale. My skin has been so combination matey, dry cheeks and super oily nose and chin. This face wash makes my face so soft. It easily got rid of my dry areas but did it without causing more oil in the areas that have been greasy. The spearmint leaves your face feeling nice, cool, and refreshed and the walnut pieces (which are very small) exfoliate without tearing your face up. This is likely to become a repurchase for me once I do run out of it.

Moisturize 911 Face Cream ($17)

Considering this moisturizer is supposed to work alongside the Complexion Correction I figured I might as well pick it up too. It’s nice and light on my face. It did leave a light, greasy residue but it sink in fairy quickly. I’ve been putting this on before bed so that doesn’t bother me like it would if I were putting it on before applying makeup. It has a nice orangey smell, which isn’t really my style but it makes me feel like my face is fresh!

Makeup Product Favorites

Too Faced Born This Way Foundation in Porcelain ($39)

I’ve read so many mixed reviews on his foundation so I really had no idea what to expect. I also purchased it online, which is fucking stupid because you can’t correctly color match but whatever I did it. The color matched perfectly though. At least for my lighter, winter skin. I love this foundation. It has instantly become my go to.

It has a medium to full coverage, and I much prefer a full coverage foundation. It does cake slightly as the day goes on, particularly on my cheeks close to my nose, but it isn’t really bad. It definitely applies better for me with a brush than with a sponge, though I’ve recently realized I don’t really like beauty sponges including the Beauty Blender, but that’s not for this discussion. It doesn’t streak, and it lasts all day.

I swear it wears better as the day goes on. It looks good when I apply but it looks even better a few hours later when it has really settled on my skin. It also fees lighter than it applies. I expected it to be really heavy, given how well it does to cover everything but it’s surprisingly wearable. This is sure to become a Holy Grail for me. Now I just need to figure out my summer color.

The Balm Jovi Palette ($39.50)

I picked this up on HauteLook because I wanted to try some of The Balm products and man am I happy that I did. This has my new favorite blush, highlighter, and it is so easy to travel with. This has all the essentials as far as eye shadows go for me. A light matte for the brow bown, a warm brown matte for transition, and a range of colors for the lid because you know I like to mix it up. They’re decently pigmented, creamy, and blendable. I did find a primer is a must with these shadows though, otherwise they create. I almost always use a primer though so that’s a non issue for me.

I don’t love the lip balms, I will say that. Even though there is a flap that folds up and covers them they do still get fall out from the blush and highlight in them. The pink has more coverage than the red, which tends to be more of a wash of color. They’re also sticky, which is a no go for me. They’re just glossier I guess than what I prefer. They are decent though and again, they’re right in there so they travel well! I mean I could essentially do my entire makeup look with this palette, it is extremely convenient.

Let’s get into the highlight and blush though. This highlight. It makes me look like I’m glowing from the inside out. I love my Looxi Beauty highlights and still use them just about every other day, but on the days when I’m not using them in using this. At first I saw it and thought “oh another gold highlight, boring.” Nope. I love this. It is subtle yet not at the same time. I don’t know if that is even possible. I feel like it makes me look radiant and healthy, even when I feel like shit.

As for the blush it is a bit more pigmented than I like but it blends out really nicely and is easily builds up. It’s a nice, soft peachy pink color. I’ve been wearing this almost every day. When I don’t I’m still dipping into my Urban Decay palette.

Colourpop Ultra Satin Lip in Cozy and Too Lips ($6)

ColourPop how I love thee! I wasn’t sure if I would like the Ultra Satin Lips but I’m hooked. They are so comfortable! It doesn’t even feel like you are wearing anything. I also had my doubts because I figured if they’re satin they won’t last as long as the mattes, not true. They last all day long. Honesty they may last longer than the mattes. Wel, maybe not but they wear off in a way that doesn’t look as crazy as it does when the mattes wear off. I don’t know how Colourpop continues to push out such decent quality products at such a low price but I hope they keep it up.

I picked up four colors but I’m loving two. Cozy, which is a warm, orange red. Very Merilyn Monroe. The other is Too Lips which is a maroonish brown. Sometimes it looks purple, sometimes it looks brown. It’s fun. It’s especially fun for a grungey lip look but without having to do griege, which I’m not big on. I’ve been wearing this color a lot. I don’t even care that it isn’t really Spring appropriate. I love it too much!

Colourpop Lippie Stix in Rippa (Discontinued)

Lastly I have Ripa, a Creme finish peachy nude Lippie Stix made for Kelly Ripa. When I got this and swatched it I thought it was too brown and it would look horrible. This is the nude I’ve been searching for!! I don’t know where it has been all my life. I do have an issue though and this is one of very few times Colourpop has let me down. I have some of their Creme finish lippies and love them but this one just will not stay out. It’s constantly sliding all over my lips. The color comes off from the inside of my lips and pools around the edges. It’s not a good look.

So this is a half favorite because I found a dream color and a half Shit That Sucks because it just isn’t working for me. If anyone has any color dupes for me (preferably in matte but any finish will do) let me know! I would love you forever.

Shit That Sucks

I have one more item for the shit that sucks category, a whole item not just part of one like with the lip stick. It makes me sad when I have things that I don’t like and this is a big one. I wanted it to work so bad because it was expensive and it’s my first purchase from a brand people love.

Becca Aqua Luminous Perfecting Foundation in Fair ($44)

I hate it. I hate it so much and I don’t want to. I have tried this a thousand times and in a thousand different ways but it just does not work for me. I should have known better, it isn’t supposed to be a high coverage foundation and those are what I like. What it is supposed to be though is buildable and that it is not. It streak, it slides, and it pushes all over my face. It will not build. I’ve tried a brush, I’ve tried a sponge, I’ve tried my fingers (they worked best) but not matter which I use it still streaks and is patchy. Then it never settles into my skin and I fee like it is just sliding around my face all day long.

It is more than just dewy also. I don’t know why I picked up anything dewy, I prefer a matte finish but I was having dry patch issues so I thought maybe this would work better on those. No. First of this is hella dewy. It’s not even dewy, it’s wet and greasy and it looks greasy all day long, even after setting it with powder to reduce the dew. Yet, even though it’s dewy it settles right onto my dry areas and becomes flakey! What the fuck?

My third issue is the packaging. I like the bottle. It’s sleek and sexy and looks nice but it doesn’t work. After only using it twice the cap started getting stuck. I would turn it and the top wouldn’t pop up for me. So I couldn’t push the button to pull liquid up into the dropper. I had to wipe it on the back of my hand to use it. I did find when I unscrew the cap if I push down hard and grind it then the button will pop like it’s supposed to but I definitely shouldn’t have to do that.

I will say I hate hating this product. I want it to work so bad! It is my first Becca item and I’ve heard such rave reviews about the brand but this isn’t putting a great taste in my mouth for it. The foundation itself is whatever because some foundations just don’t work as well on some as it does on others but the packaging issue is a big deal for me. You’re supposed to be higher end and I doled out decent money for you but your packaging doesn’t work properly? That is not ok.

So that’s it for my favorites and not so favorites. I know in a bit late, I’ve been plagued with the flu and then once I got better everyone else in the house got it so I had to take care of them. File that under Shit That Sucks! Hopefully though I will be a bit more active this month because I have new makeup and I can’t wait to tell you about it!!
