Impulse Cosmetics Review

I wasn’t sure what indie makeup brand I wanted to try next (I have a huge list) and had heard some not great things about Impulse Cosmetics so they weren’t high on my list. Then I saw their limited edition duochrome liquid to matte lipsticks on their Instagram and decided I needed to try them and decide for myself. I picked up two lipsticks and a few glitters. My first loose cosmetic glitters! I’ve kind of steared clear of loose glitter because they seem so messy and in wasn’t sure how I would make them stick but let me tell you… Wet N Wild’s Fergie Eye Primer is some sticky shit! It gets the job done.

Cosmetic Glitters

I don’t have a lot to say about the glitter because I don’t have much to compare it too and because, well, it’s glitter. Glitter is glitter. I like how fine both Fierce and Malarky are. I had a shocking small amount of fall out with them, I expected a ton, but I think that has more to do with what I used as an adhesive than the glitters them self. Though the finer glitters did stick better than Carnival which was a larger sized glitter.

Fierce

Fierce is a pink/gold holographic glitter. I’m actually going to to do a Valentine’s Day look using this shadow. You can really see the gold in it when it is used on top of a dark shadow. This is probably my favorite of the three glitters I picked up.

Malarky

This is the most boring of the three glitters. It is simply a purple glitter. I don’t have a whole lot to say about it.

Carnival

Carnival is the largest of the glitters. In the photos you can see that it is a mix of red, gold, and blue glitters. In real life because you aren’t as close up in it, it looks like a mix of many more colors. I really like this color but I wish that the glitter was finer like the other two.

Duochrome Lip Lacquer

These lipsticks are liquid to matte duochrome lipstick so. They’re what sold me on picking up impulse Cosmetics products and I am so happy I did.

I picked these up from the post office on my way in to work so I actually swatched them there first. My first impression was “eh.” The packaging is cheesy. I know it’s an indie brand so the packing isn’t going to be the best I’ve ever seen in my life but the applicator felt really thin and cheap and their sticker job was super shit. Like they half ass threw their logo on. Besides that on the website the red color is called Sleigh Ride but on the packaging it says Sleigh Bells. Umm… You got your own name wrong? How does that happen. Luckily none of those things are make or break for me, and I actually ended up liking the applicator.

I really like this formula. It is thin so it doesn’t feel really heavy and drying on your lips. It’s very comfortable. Yet it is opaque. I could definitely get away with just one layer of product but I just always do two out of habit. This could actually be my favorite liquid lipstick formula. I want to pick up a few more “normal” or monochrome colors before deciding that but it’s definitely up there on my list.

They take a little longer to dry down but not super long. I would say they’re on par with the Kat Von D brand as far as how long they take to dry. They do dry completely matte but because of the glitters/shimmer in them it does still look wet in certain light. That’s ok with me though, that’s one of the fun parts of the duochrome. I will say the photos really don’t do them the justice they deserve though. I also didn’t notice any sort of scent, which I appreciate. Overall I would give these lipsticks an A and I definitely will be trying more!

Wicked

Wicked is a cool pink lipstick with silver shimmers in it. The website says green shimmers, which you can see some, but they look more silver to me. Maybe they’re silvery green. I don’t know. Of the two shades I have worn this one the most. It’s kind of bright but I still find I can pull it off at work without much of an issue. Though I tend to wear a bolder lip at work than most people would be willing to try getting away with.

The wear time on this for me was about 8 hours and it lasted decently through food. I only had to touch up a bit in my center bottom lip. It does leave a bright pink stain behind.

Sleigh Ride

Or bells… Who knows. This is a limited edition from their Christmas collection; it is a red lipstick with gold shimmer in it. I was thinking recently that I need a bold red liquid lipstick and this seems to do the trick. It’s almost a traditional red lipstick but with a fun twist to give it something a little different. This also has some pretty crazy staining power.

Overall the glitter is just glitter to me. Until I try other glitters I won’t really understand whatthe difference is, besides the cut and I know I like the smaller cut.

The lipsticks though!! Yeah they’re definitely at the top of my list as one of the better formula. I will surely be picking up more shades and when I do I’ll let you guys know if I like those as much as the duochromes. These things are just so comfortable though! If you want to try them out for yourself head over to Impulse Cosmetics and order some. Don’t forget the duochromes are limited edition!

  1. Thanks for the helpful review! I was on the fence about these because I’d also heard some not-so-great things about them but the lipsticks look lovely. Sleigh Ride reminds me of Jeffree Star’s Hoe Hoe Hoe which I was devastated I couldn’t get so I think I’ll try it out!!

  2. Wow, I came on this page to look for a review for their loose eyeshadows but I think I may leave buying some lipsticks instead. This definitely helped! Thanks!
