May 2015 Boxycharm Review

That’s right, tonight is Boxycharm time! As I’ve said before BoxyCharm is a monthly beauty subscription box that costs $21 a month. You get 4-5 full size products and it retails at much, much more than the $21 a month. I think every box I’ve received, except for 1, retailed at over $100. If you would like to subscribe to your own BoxyCharm box you can do so here.

Bold & Beautiful

Lauren B. Beauty

Nail Polish in Sunset Tower ($18)

We received a Lauren B nail polish in one of these boxes, it may even have been my first Boxycharm boxes before I started adding them to my blog. That was a red shade. I remember liking it enough to be excited when I saw it in the box but don’t remember being in love with it. Anyway… this month’s box had four different colors and I was hoping for the bright green, but I do like this color as well. I didn’t think it necessarily fit the bold theme but it is still a nice color. It looks more tan/nude in the bottle and the pictures but it has a fun orange undertone to it when it is on my nails. It has a nice opaque formula and two coats were perfect. It also dries super fast, which is great for someone like me who has no patience and always ends up smudging their nails after doing them. I did feel like it chipped pretty quick without a top coat though. However, my nails are growing super fast these days too so that wasn’t helping. With a good top coat I think you would get a nice, long lasting mani with this polish. 4 out of 5.

Don't mind my horrible mani. This picture was taken about 3 days after I actually did my nails. And I screwed up the decal...

Bronzer with a Shimmer Finish ($24)

I was nervous when I first saw this bronzer. I don’t use bronzer that often and when I do it typically isn’t with a shimmer. This is very nice though. I’ve actually been mixing it with my blush for a nice sun kissed look and I’m slightly obsessed with it. I wasn’t sure about the shimmer at first but it’s just subtle enough to be ok, especially when mixed with a blush. I also like that it is a nice light, golden color, rather than the typical overwhelming dark bronzer. It is much more wearable for someone like me with fairly light skin. 4 out of 5.

Brow Brush ($19)

I already have a brow brush that I had never used before (see the next item for more on that) but it is significantly bigger than this brush. I loved the smaller size, allowing for more control when applying the powder to my brows. I didn’t think much of the spooley on the other end though ( I know, I know most people love it!) I already have a spooley and this just makes storage harder. Other than that though this brush has worked magnificently for me! 4 out of 5.

Essential Brow Trio ($19)

So I’ve never used my brow brush before because I typically just use a standard brown brow pencil. I keep thinking to myself I need to try something better than this, a powder or gel but I don’t really want to spend the money. Then, low and behold, we get this trio and a brush! I am loving this brow powder and it has become part of my daily routine. I haven’t left the house without my eyebrows being done and I’m not sure if i will be able to from here on out! I love that it gives you three colors so you can mix and match to find your perfect shade. I typically just use the medium brown color straight up, though I have mixed it with the lighter shade for a more subtle look. The powder is very controllable, especially with the brush, and lasts all day (even through the extreme heat and sweat I had to deal with the other day). I am absolutely loving this product and will definitely recommend it to friends! 4.5 out of 5.

Left is without the brow powder, right is with the brow powder.

The Lip Bar

Lipstick in Purple Rain ($20)

“I only want to see you laughing in the purple rain”

Yeah Prince! Oh right, lipstick. So I’m new to purple lipsticks. I keep seeing them on other people and thinking “whoa that looks so awesome” but I’ve been pretty nervous to try it myself. Then I got two purple samples/products to try this month, and ordered a couple shades on Colour Pop (that review should be up in the next couple of weeks). So purple lipstick is really starting to make a bit of an impact on my life. This seems like a fairly wearable purple, especially for someone new to the shade. It is a lighter shade, and actually has more of a pink tone to it (you can really see it around the edges of my lips.) I love the packaging. It has a very cute gothic/victorian look to it. It’s just adorable. The color is super creamy and pigmented. I was shocked at how it glided right on when I swatched it. It definitely leaves behind a stain, but it is a very vibrant pink stain. It is still on my hand after swatching it for the picture yesterday! I typically prefer a little stain because that keeps the color but not when it isn’t the color the lipstick was intended to be. Overall though I’m pretty happy with this. Now I just need to get the balls to try it out in public! 3.5 out of 5.

This box valued at $100. A great value for only having paid $21. Overall I really enjoyed this month’s box! I was really excited when I saw before hand that the theme was going to be bold. I love bright colors and am all about trying new things, that’s the whole point in these subscriptions right?? I mean I gave almost everything on here a 4 or higher. I would say this is definitely one of the top boxes for me. It makes me even more excited to see what will come next month!

  1. Great box this month! I am still waiting to get mine and I can’t wait to see what color nail polish and lipstick I got. I think the purple lipstick looks fun! 🙂 xo
