May 2015 Ipsy Review

It’s that time again… beauty box unboxing! Ipsy is a month beauty subscription box that costs $10 a month. It comes with 4-5 sample, travel, and full sized products as well as a cute makeup bag with a design based on that month’s theme. If you would like to subscribe to your own Ipsy you can do so here!

I don’t like this bag. Straight up just don’t like the design. I think it is childish. It reminds me of pop art done wrong, and I love pop art. I feel like this should be a 10 year old’s makeup bag filled with bubblegum flavored lip gloss and confetti nail polish, both things I also don’t like. I can’t complain too much though because I have loved the last 4 or 5 bags. I will say that this bag is made very well. I do like the canvas and it seems nice and sturdy, so that is a plus at least. I can’t say I’ll ever really use it though.

Nail Wrap in Yacht Party

First things first. I decided to redeem a few of my points because the nail wraps caught my eye. This was my first time redeeming any points. Mostly because there isn’t every anything I’m super interested in to redeem for. I am not a huge nail wrap fan, I hate JamBerry. That’s right. I said it. I do not like JamBerry nail wraps. I could go into detail on this but I won’t. Anyway…I thought the nautical theme on these wraps was cute so I figured why not.

They’re eh. I like them better than the JamBerry wraps but only slightly. I was able to apply them easier and they fit my nails fairly well. They also looked nice. I liked the design a lot. However, they didn’t last very long. I believe this is partly because my nails are growing like crazy with this pregnancy so the back starts to show sooner, but they also chipped super easily, which was disappointing. Overall I would say they’re just okay. I won’t go out and purchase them but I will use the rest in the pack I have.

Not Your Mother’s

Deja Vu Du Style Extender

Ipsy Code: Ipsy

I opened up my Ipsy bag and instantly smelled something phenomenal. I then dug through the bag to find out what it was. It has a sweet, berry like smell to it. It reminds me of something but, alas, I can not think of what it is. When I finally reached the scent that was making my nose so happy I found this product. I automatically liked it based on that alone. When I tried it in my hair it worked well. It kept my style in place all day but without leaving any sort of strange residue, kept my hair from getting oily for two days, and made my hair look sleeker and shinier. I actually can’t think of anything I can complain about when it comes to this. I’m not sure how often I’ll use it though. Regardless it is getting a 4 out of 5.

BellaPierre Cosmetics

Mineral Gel Eyeliner in Ebony

Ipsy Code: Ipsymay2015

I love waterproof eyeliners. They’re an instant go to for me, so I was excited to see one in black in my bag. Sure black is boring but I can never have enough black eyeliner, especially if it is waterproof. This liner is super smooth and creamy when you first put it on. It is nice and dark and has great smudge potential. It also lasts all day! I probably won’t ever need to buy another liner because of these bags but if I did I wouldn’t definitely consider shelling out the $15 for this. 4.5 out of 5.

St. Tropez

Instant Glow Body Lotion

Ipsy Code: Ipsy25

I am not a self tan fan. I can never get it on even, I hate exfoliating, and I’m lazy. Self tan just takes way too much time and energy. I definitely don’t like a self tanner that has shimmer in it like this one. I didn’t catch it well in the light but there is definite shimmer there. It smelled like typical self tanner. I swatched this but I will never actually use it. Even if I thought about using it, it seems like a strange shade. You can’t see it well in the photo but it is there on the upper part of my wrist. 1 out of 5.

Urban Decay

24/7 Glide on Lip Primer and High-Color Lipgloss

I have never used a lip primer but I love the idea of a clear lip liner that you can use with any pencil. It seems to work well enough. It evened my lips out well, making the colors go on even and all over. It also was great as a liner. It stopped my lipstick from feathering out of the edges, which I have an issue with. That gets a 4 out of 5.

As for the glosses they were a miss for me. I’ve said it before. I don’t like gloss. These were sticky and they did not last long. I was not impressed with their wear time at all. I love the pink color, Failbait. It is a great everyday/work color. It went on fairly even and just had a nice look to it. I wasn’t as impressed with the purple color, Bittersweet. It went on really patchy. I had a very hard time evening out the color, even with the lip primer. I also didn’t think it was the most appealing shade of purple, but I am also just trying purples out this month. The glosses get a 2.5 out of 5.

It Cosmetics

CC Cream with SPF 50

Ipsy Code: Ipsy20

I wasn’t very excited to see a CC cream, as I never really find ones I like. This wasn’t much of an exception. The color is too dark/yellow for my skin tone so I definitely won’t use it. The coverage did seem decent though so perhaps I would like it in a different shade. 1 out of 5.

Overall this bag is ok. I can’t say I was super impressed but I am not totally disappointed by it either. I loved the hair serum and eyeliner, will use the lip primer, and will ditch the self tanner and cc cream. Over all that is about a 50/50 so that’s better than completely hating the bag.

  1. Wow I’m the total opposite and think this bag was one of the better ones. I always love reading blogs and seeing other people’s thoughts and feelings. It’s funny that something I love another person could hate.

  2. I’m really considering getting an Ipsy subscription! I’ve saw a few people unhappy with the last box or two, but generally your least favourites are the ones I’d love to try and vice versa, so I suppose it all depends on personal taste. Great balanced review! 🙂 xo
