April 2015 Ipsy Review

It’s Ipsy unbagging time! For those who don’t know Ipsy is a month beauty subscription box that costs $10 a month. It comes with 4-5 sample, travel, and full sized products as well as a cute makeup bag with a design based on that month’s theme. If you would like to subscribe to your own Ipsy you can do so here!

Beautifully Bohemian

When I saw this bag online I wasn’t that impressed with it. It looked a bit boring but I must say I have changed my mind since. I do like the weave pattern much more in person than in pictures. It also seems very sturdy and is slightly larger than other bags we have received that are the typical rectangular shape. Go Ipsy! Way to change my mind!

Lather

Ultra Light Face Lotion

Ipsy Code: Ipsy15

I’m going to just start with this because I hated it. As stated before I’m not a huge fan of receiving lotions in these bags, but it also doesn’t hurt to have them around. This lotion did moisturize well and it made my skin feel nice and smooth. However, I could not get past the smell. To me it smelled like mustard. Gross, nasty, bright yellow hotdog mustard. Yuck. I haven’t used it since the one time because I just can’t do it. I tried to keep it on for as long as possible to see how it worked but I couldn’t do it for too long. I had to wash it off it smelled so bad. Clearly this is getting a 1 out of 5.

Mullein & Sparrow

Mini Tinted Lip & Cheek Balm

Ipsy Code: Ipsy2015

When I saw I would be receiving this I was really excited. We received a clay facial mask from Mullein & Sparrow in our BoxyCharm box a few months ago and I loved it. I also love tints. They are my go to for my cheeks. I was a little disappointed by the tint in this though. It looks like a nice color in the tin but then you use it and there is absolutely no color at all. None. Zip. So I don’t know why anyone would ever use this on their cheeks. On the bright side it smells awesome, like spices, and feels really nice on your lips. I also like the little tin it comes in. Overall I liked this, I was just disappointed in the lack of color. 3 out of 5.

MicaBeauty

Eye Primer

Ipsy Code: Ipsy2015

We received this in the full size months ago in one of the BoxyCharm boxes. That’s right, this isn’t full size. The full size is .8g and this is.4g. I did check. However, a little bit goes a very, very long way so this will last forever. I remember stating when I did my BoxyCharm review that I love this (still do. It has become part of my daily routine) but it’s so expensive ($44) that I wasn’t sure what I was going to do when it runs out. Low and behold Ipsy is here to save the day!! I still haven’t used half of my full size one. This mini is going straight into my purse just in case I ever need it on the road. It is a bit dry but the tackiness is what really makes your shadows stick to your eyes. It is also really easy to work with. I love using it as my base to blend colors. And it prevents major creasing! I just can’t say enough good things about this product! 5 out of 5.

Hikari

Blush

Ipsy Code: hikari30

Why is it that I always seem to get blush in this vibrant pink shade? I know there are other shades out there! On the bright side, I know that this shade works for me so I now have a never ending supply of blush! The Hikari looks intense but it goes on fairly light. A little bit definitely goes a long way. The formula is very soft and I found I really only needed to touch it up on occasion. For the most part it sticks. 3 out of 5.

The Balm Cosmetics

Nude Dude Eyeshadow in Flirty

Ipsy Code: Ipsy20

When I saw this in my glam room my initial thought was “another brown shadow?” Because if they aren’t sending champagne/rose gold shades they seem to be sending browns. The thing is I like both brown and champagne shades, but it has gotten to the point where it’s expected with Ipsy. The point of the subscription is to try new products, which I would assume would also mean new shades. Particularly ones outside of your comfort zone. I don’t think brown is outside of anyone’s comfort zone. That being said, I was wrong.

When I got the bag I opened it up and swatched the shadow. I was surprised to find a lovely purple tinted brown. It is definite much, much more than a brown. I can’t say my picture does the swatch justice. So it is a brown with underlying purple tones. Then it also has the gold shimmer/sheen to it. It’s absolutely gorgeous. It makes me want to buy the whole Nude Dude palette! I used it as a base shade the other day and accented it with some of the deeper purples from my Coastal Scents Revealed 2 palette. Lovely. I will definitely get a makeup of the day picture using this so you can hopefully see what I mean about the multiple colors. It also lasted all day with my eye primer (the MicaBeuty one) and didn’t crease once. This is easily getting a 5 out of 5.

Overall this was a decent bag. I will use everything except the lotion, and I’m sure I can find someone who isn’t as repulsed by the scent as I am to give it to. Overall I have been very impressed with Ipsy in 2015. It’s hard to believe I had thought about cancelling it just a few months ago!! I’ve now been with Ipsy for a year and can’t say I really have any complaints!
