I know, I know, I’m wayyy behind with my Ipsy update but hey, at least it’s here! I will be doing both the February and March Ipsy reviews in this post. I really liked both of these bags and it seems like Ipsy has upped it’s game for 2015. I suppose we will see if they continue on an upward trend or not.
For those of you who don’t know Ipsy is a beauty subscription that costs $10 a month. It has 5 sample or full sized beauty or skincare products and comes in a different themed bag each month. If you are interested in joining you can do so here.
February 2015 Ipsy Bag
I thought this bag was adorable. I love the geometric pattern, even if it is pink. Crazy textiles are completely my thing, so as soon as I saw it I was happy. I also don’t hate the colors. The neutral with the pink work really well. This was also one of the better made bags.
Blush in Cosmopolitan
Ipsy Code: Ipsy20
I used one ModelCo product in the past and wasn’t big on it. However, I really liked this blush. It is a nice pink shade and is very pigmented. A little definitely goes a long way. It gives you that nice, natural “I’ve just been out in the cold” glow to your cheeks, especially when used with a decent highlighter. 4 out of 5.
Honey Peel Off Mask
Ipsy Code: Ipsy20
My first issue with this product was when I went to read the back to figure out how to use it. It simply said “for directions go to our website.” Ok. Great PR job. Now you know you’ll get website traffic and hopefully they’ll stumble on something else they like. It just feels like shitty, cheap advertising to me. Anyway… The actual product itself was eh. I don’t mind peel off masks but sometimes they’re just a huge pain in the vagina. This took forever to dry when I did put it on and then it was a mess peeling it off. It left my face feeling sticky and more congested than it did before I used it. I haven’t used it once since my initial test and I doubt I will again. 1 out of 5.
Large Angled Face Brush
Ipsy Code: Ipsy30
I didn’t have an angled brush before and have fallen in love with this. It is the perfect size for putting on highlighter, especially on my cheeks. I also love the pink and rose gold look. That is a little surprising because I don’t love pink. It just looks classy. It’s also very soft. I’ve been using this nonstop since I received it. I would give it a 4 out of 5.
Mini Lip Gloss in Anguilla
This product didn’t come with an Ipsy Code. I also had never heard to this brand before but I hated everything about this lip gloss. The color is a really weird, sickly shade of light pink. It goes on clumpy and thick. It has a strange smell and it accentuates all the lines in my lips. I’ve already tossed this gloss into the trash. I can’t imagine it will work well for anyone so I definitely wasn’t about to pass on a shitty product. I don’t even want to rate this.
Rob Scheppy for ‘Tini Beauty Eyeshadow in Pearl Fizz
Ipsy Code: Ipsyeyes
When I first saw this two thoughts went through my head. “eh another champagne color” and “‘the fuck? I don’t give a fuck about anyone who is the ‘creative force’ behind Kim Kardashian. She sucks.” Luckily this outlived those initial thoughts. Now, I will be honest, I haven’t been using this as an eyeshadow. I have a million shadows in this shade and didn’t need another. I have been using this as a highlighter, especially with the ModelCo blush, and it is working wonderfully. I typically don’t like super shimmery highlighters but this is just shimmery enough to give you a dewy look without going overboard. I’m absolutely loving it! 4 out of 5 as a highlighter.
Okay, I know it seemed like I had a lot of complaints but I did enjoy this bag. It had three great products, all of which were full sized. Three full sized products in an Ipsy bag is almost unheard of. Then there were the two I really didn’t like but I’ve used the other three so much I think they make up for the misses in here. Besides, the bag is super cute!
March 2015 Ipsy Bag
Just when you think the bags can’t get any cuter they go ahead and out do themselves! I love, love, love this bag. The pops of color, the fun floral pattern. It’s adorable. Oh, and it is made really well. This is definitely going to be my go to travel makeup bag this spring! My pictures honestly don’t do it justice.
Glow Oil Hair Treatment
Ipsy Code: Ipsy15
I’m just going to go ahead an get this one out of the way because I still haven’t actually tried it yet. It smells fine but I just am not an oil hair treatment girl. I have really thick hair and it takes a lot. It did feel a bit silicon like on my hand, which I thought was odd. I am not rating this as I haven’t used it and that seems unfair. If I do end up using this though I’ll update with a decent review. Oh I also thought the bottle was a bit strange but what do I know.
Butter Lipstick in Pops
Ipsy Code: Nyxbutter
I’ve tried a NYX product before and really liked it but lost it. Sad face. I love this one as well. The color just goes on so smooth and creamy. Like butter! Who would have thought? It also has a decent wear time. The color was perfect for me, especially for day wear. It was actually pretty close to my natural lip color. This is sitting on my desk at work waiting to be used on the regular. 4 out of 5.
Ivory Lace Highlighter
Ipsy Code: Ipsy2015
I’ve heard some pretty awesome things about Chella so I was excited to try this. It is actually quite versatille and can be used as a highlighter, contouring pencil, or on your waterline (which is how I’ve used it.) I love it. I have a gripe with it though. Is this the only color Ipsy sent out? Because again this isn’t going to work on every skin tone. They have other shades. I’m in the hopes that maybe they sent shades based on people’s skin tone choices in their survey, or even sent an alternate product, but if not that’s really shitty because this is not a universal color. Other than that though, and that seems to be more an Ipsy gripe than a Chella grip, I really am loving this product. I’ve incorporated it into my daily routine. 4 out of 5.
Mineral Eyeshadow in 50 Shades
Ipsy Code: Ipsy2015
My initial thought was “you’ve got to be fucking me with this name.” Which could lead me into my rant on how shitty the 50 Shades of Grey literature is and how I couldn’t get past the first chapter because the writing style blew but what can you expect from something that started as Twilight fan fiction? But then that would lead into my rant on Twilight and really, I’m not here to review books right now. So I won’t start. You may have thought that I started there but that is a very small sample of the rant I could go off on.
Anyway the eyeshadow, besides the name, is actually really nice. I was happy to have a color other than champagne. I also really like mineral shadows. They just seem to be pigmented better and last longer. This was no exception. The pigmentation in this is actually quite crazy! This is definitely a going out shade more than a day shade, and is perfect for a smokey eye. I am giving it a 4 out of 5.
Cleanser and Makeup Remover
Ipsy Code: Ipsymarch30
I’ve tried pur-lisse products before and didn’t love them. I know, I know! I’m in the minority. Of the ones I have tried though, this was my favorite. It is a nice, light facial cleanser. It takes off most (not all, and not my mascara like it claimed it would) makeup. It leaves your face feeling soft and refreshed. It does have a slight chemical smell to it but not too bad. The overall scent is very light. 4 out of 5. (I’ve given lots of 4 today it seems.)
So overall there was really only one miss in this bag and I really liked everything else. This is by far one of the best Ipsy bags I’ve received in awhile! Which is good because at the end of 2014 I was starting to have my doubts. Lets bring on April!
