January 2015 Ipsy Review

A new start to a new year with a new bag! The January Ipsy theme was Fresh Start, which is a cute little way to begin a new year of beauty subscriptions. Ipsy is a monthly beauty subscription that costs $10 a month. Each month they send you a cute new makeup bag with a different theme and 4-5 full and sample sized beauty products. If you would like to join Ipsy you can do so here.

I don’t have a great picture of it but this month’s bag is much better in person than I thought it was going to be. It is a plastic material, though not that same cheap inflatable pool toy like material from a few months ago. One side is blue, the other white, and there is a coral colored zipper. All very simple, very cute, and like the theme very fresh.

Probelle Nail Polish

Into the Blue

Ipsy Code: Ipsy20

I am not a huge fan of blue nail polish and when I saw this in the sneak peak of my glam bag I thought I would hate it. On my nails though it is more of a periwinkle, dusty blue hue. I may actually use this color. It is a bit streaky so you do need two or three coats. Also when it is by itself it chips really, really fast. When worn with my OPI Topcoat it lasted about 5 days, so a decent wear.  So without a topcoat it gets a 2 out of 5 but with a decent top coat I would say a 3.5 out of 5.

Coastal Scents

Liquid Eyeliner in Jet

Ipsy Code: Liner25off

You know how much I love Coastal Scents and this is no different. This did take a bit longer to dry than I would have liked but once it did it had a nice long wear. The brush is also one of those hard brushes so it is great for both thin and thick lines. I will definitely be getting my fair share of use out of this but for the most part it is a standard liquid liner. 3 out of 5.

Messy thick and thin lines. You can see how it isn’t drying as well in the thicker areas.

Eco-Beauty

Day Moisturizer

Ipsy Code: IpsyJan15

The first reaction I had when I saw this packaging was “what the fuck?” This looks like something they would give you at a hotel, a cheap hotel. I get it is a sample size but really? The weird nozle on the top? I would almost rather get one of those foil packets. Whatever. It didn’t have much of a scent, which made me happy, and it did work fairly well. Besides the weirdness of how it looks I can’t complain much as it did do its job. 3 out of 5.

Malin & Goetz

Mojito Lip Balm

Ipsy Code: Ipsy15

This was easily my favorite product in this bag. I wasn’t sure how I would like the Mojito, as that isn’t a flavor I’m fond of, but it basically just has a really light mint scent. This goes on great, no goop, not greasy, just nice and smooth. It also made my lips feel instantly more refreshed. I will definitely be buying more of this once mine runs out! 4 out of 5.

Pacifica

Coconut Eyeshadow in Ethereal

Ipsy Code: NewBeauty

I’ve gotten Pacifica shadows in a previous Ipsy bag and I don’t love it. I don’t think it is pigmented that well and it doesn’t last long. It also creases. This color is ok. It’s a pretty standard color and will look decent on anyone, but because I couldn’t really get much color I didn’t think it did much. It is a nice highlighter on the inner corner of your eye. 1.5 out of 5.

Overall I actually did enjoy this bag. I think I may have liked it more than my Boxycharm this month, which is rare. I thought I was going to hate it and it would be boring based on my peak in the glam room, but this is probably one of the better bags I’ve gotten in awhile. Maybe 2015 will be a Fresh Start!
