January 2015 Boxycharm Review

It’s January Boxycharm time! Boxycharm is a monthly beauty subscription box that costs $21 a month. It comes with 4-5 travel or full sized beauty products, though the majority of my boxes have come with full size products. You can review the products on their site to earn “charms” which can then be redeemed for… wait for it… more beauty products! If you would like to subscribe to Boxycharm you can do so here. The theme for the January 2015 box is “Celebrate in Style.”

I threw the box away before taking pictures so they aren't so cute.

Beauty For Real

The Perfect Lip Pencil in Nude ($14)

For some reason lip pencils make me nervous. Probably because every time I think of them I have flashbacks to those 90’s dark lined lips with the nude lipstick, or no lipstick, filling them in. I do like this color and it does seem like it could be relatively universal. It smells a bit cheap and wooden pencil feels that way also, but we’ll see. I do think I’ll actually try wearing this tomorrow but I do get a bit nervous. It is actually the first lip liner I got in a shade that makes me want to try it. Typically I get super crazy shades. So for an initial reaction I would give it a 3 out of 5. I may change that once I try it, I’ll edit if so.

Beauty for Real

True Color Lip Cream in Always There ($22)

I really like this product. This is a lip cream in a dusty rose like color. It is definitely a day or night wear lipstick. The color wasn’t super long lasting and it did have a bit of a staining quality, so those are negatives. The color is gorgeous though and it feels great on your lips. It also moisturized my lips. I find the little light in the cap and the mirror on the side to be a bit gimmicky, but I’ve seen gaudier packaging. The mirror at least can come in handy. I can’t recall a time when I wished I had a flashlight for my lipstick/gloss but who knows. Maybe I will some day. 3.5 out of 5.

PUR-lisse

Flash Tattoo ($12 per Sheet)

I looked these up on the PUR-lisse website but wasn’t able to find a link for them. At first when Isaw these my thought was “what the fuck am I going to do with these?” Then I decided, well I might as well trim them down and cut out portions I want. Then I can at least wear them as rings. They’re ok. They look ok. I don’t know. Maybe I’m just not into the flash tattoo trend. They are really easy to apply and they’re supposed to last 4-6 days. The few I’ve tried only last about 6 hours. Maybe it is because they are on my fingers so they touch things more often, idk. I definitely wouldn’t go out and purchase these. 1.5 out of 5.

The tattoo is on the ring finer. The feather decal is not a flash tattoo but if you are interested can be purchased here.

Mirabella

Face Primer ($29)

I’ve said before I kind of suck at using face primers but I’ve done fairly well with this one! It has a great silky texture when you put it on. It definitely works better with my cream foundation rather than my liquid foundation. It also makes my skin sting a bit when I use it, but there is a good chance that is just because it is so dry right now. I wont purchase this when it runs out but I’m not hating it. 3 out of 5.

Tarte

Maracuja Bronzing Serum ($47)

I do love Tarte and the packaging is super cute. The size is also really awesome, but it is going to last me forever. I tried this for a week and didn’t really see any bronzing or glow. It did soften my dry skin a bit though, and I will definitely take that right now! It also smells like every other self tanning product I’ve ever used/seen/smelled. I keep reading how excited people are about this, so it makes me a bit sad that it is just “eh” to me. I’ll keep trying though and maybe it will grow on me. 2.5 out of 5.

Overall this box retailed at $124. Definitely a great price. As far as the box goes it wasn’t my favorite. I love the lip cream but the other stuff is just kind of blah. I know this is not an opinion most people will have, I’ve seen lots of people who are in love with this month’s box. To each his own, what are you going to do? Besides, you can’t love every box right? I’m looking forward to seeing what next month will bring.
