December 2014 BoxyCharm Review

It’s time for the December BoxyCharm review! BoxyCharm is a monthly makeup subscription box costing $21 a month. This subscription sends 5 full sized and travel sized makeup products for you to try and review for points on their website. This is the first box I’ve received that all 5 products weren’t full sized, but even the travel sized product was an amazing size! This is by far my favorite makeup subscription! If you are interested in joining you can do so here.

The December BoxyCharm theme is “Holiday Belles.” A cute little play on words there.

Mistura Beauty

Retractable Brush ($19.99)

This is a decent brush. Nice and soft, nice size, and obviously very easy to travel with. I’ve already thrown it in my bag so I’ll always have it on the go to touch up my face. I think it would also be great to throw in a desk drawer at work so you can just grab and touch up makeup if you are going out before going home. The only complaint I have is that at one point when I was retracting the brush the bristles got stuck and were pointing out from underneath the cap! That can’t be good for the brush, but I probably wasn’t being as careful as I should have either. It isn’t a product I would have purchased myself but I’m definitely not going to complain about having it! 3.5 out of 5.

Be A Bombshell

Lip Crayon in Shameless ($14)

I was excited to try a Be A Bombshell lip product and I was especially excited that it was a crayon as I’ve been into those lately. However… I was disappointed. When I opened this product the color was really loose and sticking further out from the package than I thought it should have. Then I went to try it and the color completely fell out and almost rolled down the drain in my bathroom sink! Luckily I was able to save it and get it back into the packaging so I can use it. It is a pink color with bluish undertones. It can be fairly vibrant but if you smudge it out it mutes fairly nicely and lasts a decent amount of time. I did need to reapply after drinking and halfway throughout the day, so it is isn’t absolutely amazing but I wouldn’t complain too much either.  I am not giving this a great rating with 2.5 out of 5 but it’s because I’m still pretty disappointed about the whole packing debacle.

Clean It Up Shampoo ($7)

This is the only product I’ve received from BoxyCharm since my first box in July that hasn’t been full size. This is a travel sized product and I still think it is a great size. I’ve been using it for at least two weeks now and I have only used maybe half the bottle, if even that. It definitely beats the little foil samples you get from other subscriptions. At least there is enough in this size that you can get an idea of whether it truly works or not. It smells lovely like vanilla and something else I still haven’t been able to put my finger on. I’ve been needing a new shampoo and this definitely seemed to strip my hair of product without leaving a residue behind. I just wish I had the conditioner to try it with for the real experience instead of using my regular conditioner on top of it. 4 out of 5.

Coastal Scents

Revealed Eye Palette ($39.95)

You guys. I love Coastal Scents. I say it every time I get a new product from them. This palette is no exception. It has a great mixture of both shimmery and matte shadows and has a beautiful array of neutral colors. This palette is perfect for a more natural, brown smokey eye, yet it has the perfect dark, charcoal colors for the original smokey eye. It is also perfect for just a simple day shadow. The formula is great. It is super pigmented and the color lasts all day. Very rarely have I noticed it creasing. I haven’t stopped trying different combinations since I received this product. 4.5 out of 5.

Lina Lashes

Luxury Mink Diva False Lashes ($30)

Guys, I don’t wear false lashes because I can’t fucking figure out how to get them on. I have tried and tried and tried and it just isn’t happening. It’s too bad too because these are nice. I touched them, they’re super soft, and they look super thick. I need thicker lashes but alas, I’m done even trying with falsies. Somehow they are mink yet cruelty free??? Does this mean they just chill with the minx and casually cut off fur here and there? I don’t know. Whatever.

Long story short these are just going to sit in my cupboard collecting dust so these are the item I’m giving away. I’m excited to do the giveaway actually. I was going to see if a friend wanted them and then I was like no. Why don’t I do a giveaway. I’m sure somewhere out there, there is someone who would like free lashes (and Tarte mascara.) So be on the look out for that probably the day after Christmas.

Anyway, back to the lashes, I’m not grading this one because, again, I’m not using them. However, like with the Tarte Mascara from my Ipsy Review, if whoever receives the lashes would like to write their own review and grade I would be happy to update this and post it here for people to see.

The total cost of the products in the December BoxyCharm comes to $110.94. That is a great value for having paid only $21 including shipping and handling. Over all this probably wasn’t my favorite box though I am loving the shampoo and eye palette. I still wouldn’t scoff at it though. Even the slightly disappointing BoxyCharm month’s are pretty amazing! That is why I love this subscription so much. I can’t wait to see what January brings! Keep your eyes out on the 26th for the giveaway and have a wonderful, Merry Christmas everyone!
