Beauty Box!

October Boxycharm Review

Okay I know it isn’t No-Baby Wednesday and that this review is looong over due, but what can I say?? At least it is here now! Also I’m not sure I’m going to get my Ipsy review up or not. I will see if I feel like it. Maybe that will be this Wednesday. Also sorry in advance for the photo quality. The color is really shitty, I was in a rush when I took the pictures. My bad.

As I’ve said before Boxycharm is a monthly beauty box retailing at $21. They send you 4-5 of products to try, typically full sized. I’ve been getting my box since July and I haven’t had a sample size yet. Everything has been full size and every box has had 5 products. Apparently this isn’t the case 100% of the time, but it is pretty fucking close to it. I love my Boxycharm subscription and definitely recommend to any beauty whore out there, anyone who is looking to get into makeup but not sure what you want to try, or people who want to try a wider range of products but don’t know what you want to try or want to spend all that money on something you might hate. If you want to sign up for your own Boxycharm you can do so here. Please remember there is a waiting list, and I believe it is fairly large at the moment. Okay, on to the box!

Palmetto Derma

Collagen Booster and Resturation Serum ($48)

Long story short, it’s to help boost collagen and keep your skin looking young and radiant. Blah, blah, blah. I don’t use products like this. Not that I don’t need them and not that I don’t like them but I just am too forgetful. I am not going to remember to put this on every day. Which sounds weird because I could work it into my beauty routine but guys, I forget to prime sometimes. I forget to lotion. I just know I’m going to forget. I have a friend who loves stuff like this though so I gave it to her (before I took pictures hence why this is clearly not one of the ones I took.) I did put it on my hand before and it felt kind of greasy but that was only a quick swatch. I also thought it had a funky smell. So this one was not for me. I actually don’t even feel like it is fair for me to rate this one as I didn’t even give it a chance.

Coastal Scents Concealer Palette

Eclipse Concealer Palette ($19.95)

I knew this one was coming because it was on the sneak peak, and naturally I got excited because we all know how much I love Coastal Scents. Unfortunately it didn’t live up to my expectations. I do love all the options for concealer. You can basically mix and match to get the perfect shade. I also love the green and yellow concealers. The green is for diminishing redness and works wonderfully. The yellow covers up bluer areas, so shadows under your eyes. I have huge shadows under my eyes and always have. To the extent that people think they’re part of my makeup routine. I’ve gotten used to them. I don’t even try to hide them anymore, but this yellow concealer definitely worked the best of anything I’ve tried. It didn’t hide them completely but made me look somewhat normal. To the point where I was shocked by how much lighter my face looked! I haven’t done it but I’m sure this palette is awesome for contouring. Contouring scares me though and I don’t need that extra time added to my routine. On to the negative. This shit is really hard to get out of the palette and it definitely does not glide on your skin. The formula definitely isn’t for me. The highligher (the silver one) just seems to clump around and is super shiny and not in a good way. Also, the sizes seem rather small. I’m going to end up going through my colors super fast, which is kind of annoying for a full size product. However it is like 15 full size products for $20, so I guess I can’t complain. I say 3.5 out of 5 stars for me.

From top to bottom: Highlighter, green concealer, purple concealer, yellow concealer, and one of the random skin tone concealers.

Cult/Commerce Boxycharm Shady Polish

Spell On & Bewitched ($21)

These polishes seem to be a Boxycharm only product, as I can’t find then anywhere else and the link on the Boxycharm website is broken. If they get it up I will add it later. I love both of these shades. I’m not sure which one is which but whatever. One is a great, grey gunmetal color and the other is a deep, gem like purple. I was disappointed when I first opened them up to try them because the brush was super, super stiff! Like really stiff. It just kept leaving lines of polish on my nails. I set them in some nail polish remover and luckily that softened them up nicely, still a pain to have to do that though. Once I got the brushes working  the polish went on nice and smooth. I probably only needed one coat because the color is so opaque but I did two anyway. They also dry really fast, which is a plus for me because I am super impatient. They chip fast though. My polish only lasted a day before the chips started showing up. I also didn’t put on a top coat, which makes that partly my fault. Still you will want a good top coat with these. 3 out of 5 stars.

Be A Bombshell Eyeshadow

Bora Bora ($14)

I was excited to see a Be A Bombshell shadow and even more excited about the lovely turquoise color because I will actually wear this. Probably just a little as a liner, but still. I still haven’t actually worn this on my eyes yet though! I loved the silky texture when I dipped my finger in to swatch and it swiped on to the back of my hand wonderfully. I will cross my fingers that it is the same way when I put it on my lid. It also stayed on my hand forever!! I really had to scrub it off when I tried washing it. I’m definitely looking forward to using this. 4 out of 5 stars ( this may go up but I don’t want to give it more not having actually tried it on my eyes yet.)

Starlooks Eyeliner

Gem Eye Pencil in Ultra Orchid ($14)

I love eyeliner. You know this, I say it all the time. I especially love purple liners because they go wonderfully with my green eyes, so I was beyond excited when this showed up in my box. However, I don’t really like it as a liner. It is just a bit too light so it kind of makes my eyes look like I have conjunctivitis or a cold. I loved it as an eyeshadow base though. I went on nice and creamy and was long lasting. It creased slightly, but not too bad. 3.5 out of 5 stars.

This box retailed at a total of $116.95. Definitely worth that $21 price tag. This wasn’t my favorite box but it still isn’t anything to get disapointed about. I will use all of the products (except the one I gave away) just maybe a little slower than I would with other products.

Until next Wednesday (ha I know, I know, it’s Saturday)!!

– ❤ S.
